Stiebel Eltron History
STIEBEL ELTRON was founded in 1924 by Dr. Theodor Stiebel in Berlin, Germany. The first product developed by the company was a ring-type immersion heater. Over time, the range of appliances was expanded to include small instantaneous water heaters, overflow heaters, pressure-type hot water appliances, and storage boilers.
In 1934, the company moved to larger premises in Berlin and continued to build a reputation for high-quality products. During World War II, the company moved to Holzminden, Germany, and in 1944, new production halls were built. The production of non-electrical appliances, including saucepans, frying pans, linen sprinklers, and irons, began the following year.
In 1949, STIEBEL ELTRON launched the DH18, the first hydraulic instantaneous water heater of a new generation. The company also introduced electric boilers to its range. The first aircraft kitchenettes were built in 1952, and the first SNU compact storage heater was built in 1957. Dr. Theodor Stiebel passed away in 1960, and in the same year, STIEBEL ELTRON sales passed the DM 100 million milestone.
In 1976, STIEBEL ELTRON began development and production of heat pumps and established itself as the market leader in Germany. In 1977, the company launched its first solar products, including high-performance flat plate collectors and hot water tanks. Finally, in 1987, STIEBEL ELTRON launched the DHE, the first all-electronic instantaneous water heater in the world.
Stiebel Eltron in Australia
Stiebel Eltron, a German company founded in 1924, arrived in Australia in 1995 with a focus on energy-efficient home comfort solutions. In 1996, the Brisbane office opened, and electric instantaneous water heaters were launched, followed by a Perth office and a Sydney office in time for the 2000 Olympics.
In 2006, Stiebel Eltron introduced the WWK heat pumps, and in 2016, the New Zealand subsidiary was launched. Today, Stiebel Eltron stands at the forefront of hot water, heating, cooling, and ventilation design and manufacture, with products like hot water heat pumps and electric instantaneous water heaters leading an energy revolution as the largest sales categories.
Although entrenched attitudes towards gas remain prevalent, Stiebel Eltron believes in an all-electric future for Australia, and the transition to such a future is within reach. With ventilation introduced as the new frontier of energy efficiency, Stiebel Eltron’s future is powered by a holistic one-stop approach, where energy efficiency and comfort lead the way.
